The Squid and the Whale
I thought this was a good movie that explored what happens during a divorce--family members taking sides, people reaching out in an effort to prove themselves valuable, a groping in space for shelter from the storm. I thought the movie captured all of this, but I think it focused too much on sex. It seemed that everyone in the movie dealt with their struggles through sexual vehicles, which is very common today, but I felt that the movie was too one-dimensional and could have broadened into other ways people cope with difficult experiences in their lives. I have found that Indie movies seem to overdo sex and include it in scripts even when it doesn't fit, so maybe this movie was a victim of this habit.
